On my most recent one with no manipulating of the save files at all, in the town that I spawned in. Make a dwarf adventurer, try to get to the micro-fort to recover the steel. Use "lair" command in DFHack to mark map as lair so that gear will still be in bin later. I've built hundreds of fortresses, I don't want to have to go through the whole multi-hour process just to make some crap that my adventurer might never even get to equip. After reading a forum thread about the error being caused by files going missing, I made my last attempt with the specific intention of avoiding the error by not savescumming at all.ġ. I've done this now several times, and invariably my adventurer will get the Nemesis Unit Load Failed error. I've looked at lots of ways to go about getting this, and the only way that looks like it will actually work without giving all of those pansy humans access to steel as well is to build a micro-fort and leave myself the gear. One of the things I've wanted to do in DF for awhile is play an adventure game as a dwarf, with at least a chance of getting steel armor.
